Two Festivals, Two Squares

You know we're getting closer to June when both Harvard AND Davis shut down for street fairs. That, and my building pool finally opening. We'll need our umbrellas handy for potential showers but nonetheless, weekend plans have dropped. Harvard shuts down for the 41st annual MayFair, Davis fills up for the Hong Kong Festival, and CambridgeSide hosts its annual 5K along East Cambridge if your Strava's been looking too quiet.

Kendall Makes A Comeback

No one likes a rainy long weekend (especially during Memorial Day), yet between the overcast skies, quiet neighborhood roads and empty red line rides, Camberville always has something cooking. Kendall brings the cities back to life on a packed Thursday with the Farmers Market opening at Termeer Square, Froca Fitness launching free outdoor dance classes in the park, and The Independent kicking off summer daiquiri nights.

Long Weekend, Short Commute

Let everyone else sit in traffic. Memorial Day Weekend means the squares go a little quieter as people live the cities, but not totally off. Friday Garden Levels launches Remnant's summer vinyl series in the beer garden with 2010s bangers. Club Passim celebrates 25 years of its folk festival with sets running all through Memorial Day. Saturday brings Small Mart back to Davis and a midnight climbing session at Central Rock. Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone.

Science, Stand-Ups & Skipping Small Talks

How many people got a chance to catch the Somerville United FC Semifinal match yesterday? After being down 2-0 in the first half, and despite only having 8 players left, SUFC crafted a ridiculous comeback to win and advance to the finals. Wild... This week will try to match that energy with a three-day heat wave and science talks to keep your curiosity going. The best thing? Each talk is under five bucks. Stand-up shows at Cloud & Spirits and Somerville singles events for diferent ages also hit the cities.

Semifinals & Splashdowns In Somerville

Summer doesn't start until June but Saturday isn't waiting. Just in time for one of Somerville's biggest professional sports games in a while as Somerville United FC continues its stellar inaugural season with a semi-final showdown at Dilboy. Sunday, the Mystic River Herring Run & Paddle hits its 30th year with a 5K, paddle races, and the Iron Herring for anyone locked in enough to do both. Sunny, seventy-five, semi-finals, showdowns, and splashdowns (try saying that seven times) are the theme this weekend.

Runs & Robots After Dark

The Boston Marathon might be in the rear-view mirror but the reasons to join a run club keep climbing. Post-run tacos, brews or even just group hangs to compare Strava scores give you all the incentive you need. But if 5Ks aren't your thing, you can still make the most out of the week at MIT's After Dark series, a monthly museum event and enjoy a robotics-themed outing with hands-on activities, DJs, and a humanoid robot demo, or just explore.

Porchfest Leads, Block Parties Deliver

Somerville's biggest event of the year makes it's long-awaited return as Porchfest takes over the city from Teele Square to East Somerville, rain or shine. And with patio season back in full swing, this weekend's list of markets and block parties hits an all time high with Gyrofest kicking things off in Spring Hill, Nervous Records hosting an epic Block Party in Central Square and yet another vintage block party fills up Harvard Square on Sunday.

The Celtics may be out but The Stoop still has you covered. May the 4th is tomorrow and the space vibes headline the week. But not before cinco heats up Tuesday with temps near 80 and margaritas flowing at Tony C's. Thursday brings Harvard and MIT astronomers to Aeronaut for talks and Star Wars trivia while 10 DJs spin back-to-back at The Smoot Standard until midnight. Bow Market closes it out, pairing a secret Sofar live music set with a singles night upstairs so grab tickets before they sell out.

Irish Fests From Inman To Davis

The first-ever Irish music festival hits the cities this weekend with four days of concerts, pub sessions, and dance workshops running from The Druid in Inman to The Burren in Davis, and plenty more throughout Boston. Volo throws another banger at Assembly on Saturday (wish me luck on my Volo soccer game tonight), but if sports aren't your thing, you'll have plenty of stacked options from art hangs to carnivals to derby parties. Sunday closes out with a Spanish wine day party at Bow Market channeling 80s Madrid.

Late Nights & New Connections

Earth Day is wrapping up but the cities are still coming alive with community events stealing the spotlight, from mahjong social nights to book swaps and community screenings in Cambridge. And if you're due for a night out, Harvard's monthly museum night is back Thursday while cuffing season emerges as Bow Market hosts its biggest singles bash in a few days.

Market Season Is Officially Upon Us

Markets, festivals, and block parties are always a hit in the ville, and this weekend is no different. This Saturday, they make headlines in a mega way as Cambridge Crossing hosts the first outdoor market of the season with hundreds of vendors and thousands expected to be in attendance. If we can brave the cloudy weather, this marks the start of outdoor event season with Bow Market hosting its first ever Pine Car Derby race while the Volo crew gets you in shape and helps you mingle with new people at Assembly.
