Cloudy days might fill up the forecast, yet mingling and machines run the week.
Fresh off MIT’s Future Fest, the robots pack the taproom at Remnant this Thursday with s’mores, tournaments, games and everything else that requires new hardware - plus it all goes to a good cause as a dollar from each pint sold goes to robotics and engineering education for kids.
But connections aren’t just built in the circuits, as Skip The Small Talk’s new speed dating series pulls up to the brewery with the option to meet multiple singles at once (plus a gift from The Stoop below); or if you prefer taking things slower, Mingle Mayhem sets you up at Bow Market for another one of their classic singles bashes upstairs from the courtyard.
The last few months of outdoor happenings keep running through the weekend too with Mushroom Fest, Monster Mash and the Charles Regatta race all competing for your time.
Signing off from Phinista, where I’ll once again be walking home without an umbrella.

September 28 through October 4 ran 143 incidents and 19 arrests, up from 131, with September 28 and October 1 the busiest days and just nine calls on October 4.
NOTABLE: Cambridge had two shootings in two days after this log window closed. Around 3:20PM on October 6, multiple 911 calls reported gunshots near Russell Field on Rindge Ave. in North Cambridge, next to the Alewife T station, and one person was taken to the hospital. Just before midnight on October 7, a second person was shot near Columbia Terrace in The Port and also hospitalized. Police say neither poses a broader threat, no arrests have been announced, and the victims' conditions have not been released. ShotSpotter played no role at Russell Field, which sits outside its coverage area.
The largest loss in the log was $139,333, taken from a CambridgePark Dr. victim by someone posing as a client of their company on September 28, and scammers posing as a police officer and a lawyer turned up in the log that same week. October 4 brought two serious arrests: one on Lambert St. turned up a loaded, untraceable large-capacity handgun, and earlier that day a man was arrested after a person reported he threatened them with a sharp object while trying to take their car on Mass. Ave. Alewife Brook Pkwy stores logged $2,689 in merchandise taken in an organized retail theft case on October 3, and one person was arrested for shoplifting twice in two days. Stranger entries: five coats taken in a Temple St. break-in, Halloween decorations lifted from a Temple St. lobby two days later, and two catalytic converters stolen in two days.

Somerville logged five arrests over the same week, down from six, with none at all until September 30.
NOTABLE: Security guards at Mass General Brigham's Assembly Row building spotted a man on October 2 they recognized from an earlier car break-in, a taser in his hand, and followed him while phoning his location to police. Officers caught up with him under the Route 93 ramp carrying a purse that matched the earlier theft. He never pointed the taser at anyone. Charges: car break-in, drug possession and carrying a taser without a license, plus three Boston and Roxbury warrants for stolen cars and credit card fraud.
The rest: two on September 30, one on warrants out of Boston and Quincy covering drug possession, receiving stolen property, unlicensed peddling and a car break-in, the other a larceny and trespass arrest on top of a Somerville warrant for the same two charges; a trespassing-on-railroad-tracks arrest on October 1 tied to a Boston warrant; and an OUI on October 4.
State law keeps juveniles, domestic violence and sexual assault out of both cities' public logs, so neither set of numbers is a full count.
