The squares are slowly filling back up after a heavy post-Fourth of July week. That means more outdoor screenings, more festivals and more ways to get outside (hard to beat those small outdoor concerts in Winthrop Park in Harvard Square). There's no rain in sight for the week, so whether you're watching School of Rock on the lawn or tasting your way through Canal District Kendall's sampling fest, odds are you're making the right choice.

Across the week, Cambridge recorded 165 incidents and 20 arrests. Theft was the most common report, led by bicycles and scooters.
Notable
Before dawn on the Fourth of July, a 32-year-old Cambridge man was found fatally shot near Broadway and Norfolk Street, at the edge of Sennott Park. A passerby found him around 5:30 a.m.; investigators believe he was shot shortly before 4:30. No arrests have been made. Cambridge Police, the Middlesex District Attorney, and State Police are investigating jointly, and ask anyone with information to call 617-349-3300 or submit an anonymous tip.
Theft again ran through the week. More than a dozen bicycles, e-scooters, and mopeds were reported stolen, several valued over $1,000, and package thefts continued daily, including one on Cambridgepark Drive estimated at $5,000. Shoplifting reports clustered along Massachusetts Avenue and around Central Square and Alewife Brook Parkway. Several scams were reported, among them a $2,000 gift-card scheme, an $18,000 identity-fraud case, and two social-media scams of $1,500 each. In a separate case, officers responding to a July 3 shoplifting report on Alewife Brook Parkway arrested a man found with a loaded firearm, suspected fentanyl, and crack cocaine.

Somerville recorded 6 arrests over the week, all in the first half.
Notable
The week's most serious charges came on June 30, when two of that day's three arrests involved assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault on a police officer, and multiple counts of drug distribution and possession, along with outstanding warrants from Somerville, Boston, and Worcester.
The remaining arrests included a nighttime break-in, a cruelty-to-animals charge, and a motor-vehicle violation.
Somerville's log excludes arrests involving juveniles, domestic violence, and sexual assault, as required by state law.
