School season is almost here, which means two things: earlier sunsets & busier streets. Both also mean more things happening in the squares, from end-of-summer concerts to late night markets and movie outings.
Camberville's vintage aesthetic is more than just the cobblestone sidewalks; it leaks into the everyday happenings with vintage markets almost every week, and this Thursday night's Bow Market outing takes a dark twist as it goes night mode so you can thrift and hang at the courtyard until 10. The Mix at Porter Square leans into this too, with a midday micro market on Tuesday if you want an excuse to pick up something homemade.
And after months of telling myself I'd build an Instagram account, it’s finally here. You can now catch up with The Stoop's weekly and weekend roundups + future exclusive content HERE.

Cambridge
The city of Cambridge has paused daily logs · CPD's most recent posted log covers July 20
NOTABLE: A body was pulled from Fresh Pond on August 11 after a call came in just before 11:40 that morning reporting a possible body in the water near the northeast corner of the pond, by the community gardens. Investigators focused on that stretch through the afternoon, and roughly half a mile of the perimeter path was taped off before a stretcher was loaded into a Medical Examiner's vehicle around 2:10PM.
The Middlesex DA and Cambridge Police say the preliminary read is that the person had been in the water for an extended period. As of this send, no identity or cause of death has been released and the investigation is still open. Because Fresh Pond is the city's drinking water reservoir, the Water Department put out a same-day statement that the supply is safe: everything drawn from the pond runs through the treatment plant on Fresh Pond Parkway before it reaches a tap. It is not the first time. In 2014, an Arlington man's body was recovered from the pond four months after he was reported missing.
On the numbers side, Cambridge Police have not published a daily log since July 20, so there is no new incident count to chart this week. We'll pick the tallies back up whenever the postings resume.

Somerville's most recent posted log covers August 3-9 and shows three arrests for the week, all of them on August 4, and a quiet log the other six days.
Two of the three were property cases: one arrest for receiving a stolen motor vehicle and one for receiving stolen property worth over $1,200. The third paired a shoplifting charge with drug possession, both logged as repeat offenses.
Somerville's log excludes arrests involving juveniles, domestic violence, and sexual assault, as required by state law.
