The clocks have rolled back and while we’ve got a little less sunlight, we’ve still got one more week of good weather, with back-to-back days in the seventies to kick off turkey season.
So whether you spot them strutting down the local roads or just want to get into the giving and gobblin’ spirit, November is full steam ahead.
Have a great month everyone.

Cambridge
Anyone keeping tabs on new construction since the multifamily upzoning can now check the city's new housing development dashboard, built after a policy order from Councillor Cathie Zusy. So far it shows only 20 projects finished since January 2025, mostly rehabs that added or dropped a single unit, but 136 more are permitted and another 89 have applied. Only 19 of those projects include affordable units. Over in Cambridgeport, the MWRA walked back its Magazine Beach sewage tank plan at a packed Morse School meeting last week. The 10-million-gallon tank could have taken 2.3 acres of the park for good and closed eight acres for about six years of construction, and officials now say they'll look at other sites or reopening the space on top once it's built. Earlier in the month the council voted 6-3 to keep the Outer Huron Ave bike lanes on track instead of pausing them, so prep work starts this fall while the city looks for ways to make up the roughly 44 parking spots near Fresh Pond that go away when construction hits next spring. That same night councillors unanimously sent the city's inclusionary zoning report to the Ordinance Committee, which floats a lower affordable requirement, tax breaks or payments into the Affordable Housing Trust for buildings six stories and up.

Early last month the council approved a $2.08 million bond for a new aerial ladder truck and rescue truck for the fire department, along with a lease that keeps the Armory running as an arts space. Union Square's Poplar Street Pump Station also needs more money, and the Finance Committee recommended an extra $3.14 million bond later in the month to cover added design and construction costs. The council also passed a resolution to oppose the draft sewer overflow plan and call for a regional fix. Councilors also asked the mayor to bar city staff from using AI to make public-facing media or replace city workers, and a new upzoning overlay for Davis, Porter and Ball Square was filed and sent to the Land Use Committee. The city's updated five-year capital plan came out the same week with more than $59 million for streets and sidewalks and over $25 million for school repairs. And in East Somerville, Cobble Hill Apartments residents are pushing back on the 90 Washington St redevelopment, which would cut a road through their trees and move 37 parking spots.

Virgil | Male | American Bulldog Mix - Virgil landed in a shelter as a stray with no tag, no microchip and nobody coming to claim him. He was so scared at first that the staff just had to give him time to come out of his shell. One obedience class and a foster home in Gloucester later, he walks around with a bouncy, puppy-like strut, and he has been waiting a while now for his person.
He is about five years old and 53 pounds, and he swims like a lab. Throw a tennis ball or a stick into the water and he will go get it every single time, which is why his foster calls him a mer-man. He turns dinner into a game by batting his kibble out of a Kong, walks well on a leash and, for a bulldog, really loves being brushed.
He is wary of new people, but a treat and letting him make the first move usually wins him over. He would do best as the only pet with someone experienced, older kids at most and a quieter spot with a yard, bonus points for water nearby.
Virgil is with Broken Tail Rescue, the same group behind the Somerville Cat Tour later this month.
